Andaman And Nicobar Islands, The people

The Andamanese, the islands' indigenous population, are classified among the Negrito peoples. Traditionally they formed tribes, each comprising small isolated groups with a common language. They used the bow and the dog (introduced c. 1857) for hunting but knew no method of making fire. Turtle, dugong, and fish were caught with nets or harpooned from single outrigger canoes.
